Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group took care of the overall relocation of the house and of finishing the building to make it fit for use in its new location. The house was located on land owned by Metsä Board, and the relocation was necessary due to a change in the city plan.

The new site ensures that this extraordinary house can be preserved for future generations. Designed by architect Birger Federley and constructed in 1924, the Wahlman house was originally used by senior officers of the Äänekoski mills.historic-wahlman-house-removed (2).jpgThe house is ready to go.

The event attracted the interest of both the public and the media. What made the move look spectacular was that the house was transported in its entirety. The transport route was closed to outside traffic with safety the number one priority in all the arrangements and operations.

The Wahlman house has special significance in terms of the history of industry and construction. As the exterior of the building is protected, the work was carried out with due care, preserving the structures for re-installation. The original foundation of natural stones was also moved to the new site.
