PEFC and FSC®
Metsä Board's customers can use the PEFC or FSC label for certified paperboard products if all processors involved in the supply chain, such as converters and printing houses, are also certified and comply with the requirements of PEFC or FSC chain of custody. In North America, Metsä Board's customers can also use the SFI® Global on-product label for Metsä Board's PEFC certified products. SFI, or Sustainable Forestry Initiative, is a North American forest certification scheme belonging to the same group as PEFC.

Compostability
All our paperboards, with the exception of PE-coated products, have industrial compostability certificates in accordance with the DIN EN 13432 and/or ASTM D6400 standards and a home compostability certificate in accordance with the NF T 51-800 standard. Metsä Board's certification only applies to paperboard. Before adding a compostability label to the packaging, the manufacturer of the product must ensure that their final packaging solution meets the criteria for compostability.
The compostability certificates are available on the DIN CERTCO website.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is well known in the Nordic countries in particular. Metsä Board has applied for Nordic Swan Ecolabel approval for a selected number of its paperboard grades and pulps. This enables our customers to use the label on their own products when they use Nordic Swan Ecolabel approved paperboards and obtain their own license to use the label.
The updated list of Metsä Board products with Nordic Swan Ecolabel approval is available on the Nordic Ecolabel website:
