Methanol

Crude methanol is a side stream of pulp production. It is currently used as biofuel in the mill and in the production of condensed electricity. The value of crude methanol can be increased by refining it into biomethanol.

Crude methanol refinery to Äänekoski

Veolia is building a crude methanol refinery in connection with Äänekoski bioproduct mill. The refinery, operated and owned by Veolia, is closely integrated into the bioproduct mill’s processes. The facility will start at the end of 2024.

The production of biomethanol increases the refining value of methanol and it can be used, for example, as transport fuel or as a chemical.
