Construction work on Metsä Fibre's Rauma sawmill is proceeding as planned.
Many of the work phases are already underway. Foundation work is progressing towards the saw line area. At the same time, roof beams are already being lifted onto pillars at the site of the sawn timber sorting line, and wall and roof elements are being installed.
Wood is being used in the construction of the sawmill in various forms: sawn timber, plywood, glulam and laminated veneer lumber.
The roof beams are made of glulam and roof elements are made of laminated veneer lumber. Wood will be visible in the interior of the sawmill, for example, in ceilings and doors. Hybrid elements combining concrete and laminated veneer lumber board will be used in the log sorting facilities.
Wooden structures will also be used in the exterior walls of buildings. Metsä Group is supplying the materials for all of these.
The construction of the first drying plant buildings will begin in early 2021. Sawmill test runs begin in summer 2022.
