Responsibility and Sustainable Development as Priorities

Puidukoda is committed to using northern coniferous wood, a renewable resource that is almost entirely FSC or PEFC certified. The company will start publishing an annual sustainability report and begin ESG reporting in 2025. Puidukoda’s products are designed for longevity, and the company aims to reduce waste and optimize energy use in the production process.

“Since wood binds significantly more carbon dioxide than is released during its processing, we can reduce our environmental footprint by using wood products in construction,” says Opmann.

Employee well-being as a priority

Puidukoda invests in the well-being of its employees by providing safe and healthy working conditions and fair wages. The company promotes diversity and an encouraging corporate culture, which improves productivity and employee commitment.

Focusing on customer needs

The company relies on its product development and innovation capabilities, offering customers environmentally friendly and uniquely designed products. According to Opmann, improving the quality, durability, and attractiveness of products is an essential part of Puidukoda’s success story. The company exports its products to various markets, and as it expands into new markets, product development is tailored to meet their requirements and preferences.

Continuous development and process innovations

Puidukoda has recently introduced new products, such as a range of interior panels representing Nordic style and a selection of thermally modified products. The company aims to improve its efficiency and minimize its environmental impact by automating and digitalizing its production processes.

“Our latest digitalization project is related to the quality inspection of incoming sawn timber,” Opmann explains.

Consistent quality is a key

According to Opmann, the quality of Puidukoda’s products relies heavily on the raw materials used, with Nordic sawn timber being a key component, known for its durability and superior properties.
Metsä Fibre has long been one of the main suppliers of sawn timber to Puidukoda.

“We choose Metsä Fibre’s sawn timber because of its consistent quality and sustainability, both of which align well with our own commitment to ecological responsibility,” says Opmann.

According to Opmann, Nordic sawn timber stands out due to its exceptional durability and fine grain, which is a result of the slow growth rates of trees in the cold Nordic climate.

“This timber has a higher density compared to other timber types, making it a preferred choice for high-quality planed timber products.”
