The Äänekoski bioproduct mill project, started in 2013, aimed more than at the construction of a single mill. The aim was to use all of the valuable wood raw material and refine the side streams generated by production into bioproducts with a high added value. This led to the emergence of an industrial ecosystem, where partners develop new bioproducts together.

An extensive industrial ecosystem has grown around the bioproduct mill, which started up in 2017. The ecosystem has further expanded with biogas and biopellet plants, as well as new test plants.

Metsä Fibre's goal is to utilise all production side streams by 2030. Development work continues, and new partners are constantly being sought. The extensive factory integrator provides an excellent environment for development work and an inspiring working environment for employees.
