"The new lightweight fibre material brings sophisticated and luxurious elegance to the packaging of premium products," says Ilkka Harju, Packaging Services Director at Metsä Board. "The showcased packaging solution combines impressive aesthetics, protection, and easy recyclability. The overall solution is designed so that the haptic properties of the material feel both natural and lavish. The color scheme is also harmonious."
The cellulose-based light fibre material is easily adaptable for various visually impressive and functional end uses. It can be shaped into different forms and vividly reproduces even the smallest details. The material can be processed with various techniques, and special treatments can create striking contrasts.
"The packaging solution currently on display in Paris is one example of how the new cellulose-based light fibre material can be utilized in the packaging industry. The material enables new ways to boost brand image and protect products aesthetically and environmentally," says Senior Development Manager Minna Hakalahti. "This is a great example of the versatility of northern wood and pulp. Renewable wood fibres can replace fossil raw materials in various end uses, thus promoting sustainability in industrial value chains."
Metsä Fibre continuously works to find new ways to expand and develop the range of wood fibre-based bioproducts, both independently and in collaboration with partners. The pulp-based light fibre materials are examples of the company's products currently in development phase.
