”We were given the honour of designing the Design Bar and a spacious stage for the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2025, covering more than 500 square metres right at the heart of the event, ”says design agency Fyra’s Head of Concepts Anu Latvala. ”We wanted to showcase Finnish wood in a way that represents innovative thinking and implementation, emphasizing Finnish material expertise and thus creating new opportunities for interior designers.”
Pulp-based light fibre material has been utilized in the bar counter, which is the focal point of the space. ”The innovativeness and beautiful appearance of the material immediately appealed to us. We wanted to create a harmonious space where all the elements inspire and encourage designers to create new solutions and everyday aesthetics,” Latvala continues. ”In the implementation, the material itself plays a significant role, as it represents an empty canvas for creativity, art and design.”
The pulp-based light fibre material is easily customizable for a variety of end uses. It bends into different shapes and looks interesting even on large surfaces. The material can be refined with a variety of techniques and special treatments or used as such.
”The implementation now on display at the Stockholm Furniture Fair is one example of how our new pulp-based light fibre material can be used in interior design products and the furniture industry. The material is a wood-based product that brings a new kind of fresh look and feel to interior design solutions. If desired, it also gives lightness to the end products, and it is easy to work with and handle, ”says Development Manager Minna Hakalahti. ”This is a great example of the endless potential of the northern wood and pulp fibres. Renewable wood fibres can replace fossil raw materials in a variety of end uses and thus promote responsibility in industrial value chains and in various end uses.”
Metsä Fibre continuously works to find new ways to expand and develop the range of wood fibre-based bioproducts, both independently and in collaboration with partners. The pulp-based light fibre materials are examples of the company's products currently in development phase.
