Metsä Group’s pulp and sawn timber industry Metsä Fibre invests approximately EUR 30 million in increasing the capacity of the debarking plant in Joutseno pulp mill. The work begins this year, and will be completed during spring 2020. The supplier for the debarking line is Valmet.

In future, the investment will enable the mill to handle bigger pulp wood amounts. ”This investment will increase our debarking capacity with one third. This increases the effectivity of our operations and ensures the reliability of our debarking long into the future and also enables the increase of the pulp production capacity going forward,” says Ari Tanninen, VP, Metsä Fibre Joutseno pulp mill.

Metsä Fibre’s Joutseno pulp mill is the world's largest single-line softwood pulp mill utilizing the polysulphide pulp production. The annual production capacity is 690,000 tonnes softwood pulp.

Metsä Group’s paperboard industry Metsä Board’s BCTMP pulp mill is located by the Metsä Fibre Joutseno pulp mill. The BCTMP pulp produced in Joutseno is used mainly in Metsä Board’s own board mills.
