Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, is constructing a new pine sawmill in Rauma. It will be the most modern and most extensively automated sawmill in the world. The project’s domestic content will be 70%.
Excavation work for Metsä Fibre’s Rauma sawmill started at the end of May. The first part of the excavation work involves the installation of underground electric cables, piping and conduits. After this work has been completed in approximately two months, the construction of the sawmill’s foundation will start.
Rock excavation in the Maanpäänniemi area is in its final stage. Quarrying, crushing and blasted rock transports to the harbour will continue during the summer.
The main equipment agreements for the Rauma sawmill project have been signed, and the project is proceeding according to the schedule. The value of the investment is approximately EUR 200 million.
