Metsä Fibre, part of Metsä Group, will start negotiations on possible layoffs at Lappeenranta and Vilppula sawmills. The change negotiations involve the entire workforce of these two sawmills, around 70 people in Lappeenranta and around 100 people in Vilppula.

It is estimated that the planned layoffs, if implemented, would last up to 90 days and could be implemented in several tranches by the end of January 2025. The change negotiations begin in week 34 and take approximately two weeks.

These negotiations aim to address potential production adaptations in response to lower delivery volumes. The targeting, amounts and timing of the redundancies would be clarified by the end of this year.
