Metsä High Yield branded Bleached Chemi-Thermo Mechanical Pulp (BCTMP) is used to make our High Yield TENSILE, BULK and SUPER BULK products. We produce them at Metsä Board’s pulp mill in Kaskinen, and Joutseno Finland, as part of Metsä Group’s operations.
What gives Metsä High Yield Pulp its excellent high yield, bulk, brightness and paper technical properties is the chemi-thermomechanical pulping. Chemi-thermo mechanical process is a combination of both chemical and mechanical pulping. First the wood chips are treated with chemicals to separate the lignin and fibres in wood, then the softened wood chips are physically grinded to maximize the removal of the fibre. This helps retain the high yield bulk and stiffness in the resulting pulp compared to traditional chemical pulping method. For a desired bright look the CTMP process is finished with the bleaching.
Our Metsä High Yield Pulp serves to the paper industry as a raw material for specialty paper manufacturing to achieve higher stiffness as well as brightness.
Unlike ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) pulps manufactured by chemical pulping, our Metsä High Yield is produced through a customised bleaching method of TCF (Total Chlorine Free) where alternative, environmental friendly bleaching chemicals are used. This helps us to reach our sustainability targets. During our pulping processes, the used materials and side streams are recovered to produce other bioproducts and energy. We use our know-how and technological expertise to provide you and your business with added value too. We know the source of the wood we use and the wood we use comes from sustainably managed forests.
Our TENSILE and SUPER BULK pulp products are made from hardwood (birch) and softwood (spruce), while our BULK product consists of only hardwood. Each Metsä High Yield pulp has excellent pulp characteristic and are customised to suit specific end uses. Our BULK product is with high bulk designed for the printing and writing papers and boards. To achieve premium bulk properties for board and printing paper applications, we offer our SUPER BULK high yield pulp product. If added high strength is desired for tissue and specialty paper applications, we can provide our TENSILE branded High Yield pulp.
