From 15 September to 15 December 2022, Metsä Group will pay an early delivery premium for logs and pulpwood bought from owner-members through delivery sales.
"Our wood procurement is growing and we want to buy increasing quantities from our owner-members. We are the largest buyer of wood through delivery sales in Finland, and now we are increasing our purchases of delivery sales even more," says Jani Riissanen, SVP, Timber Trade and Forest Services at Metsä Group.
Delivery sales means that the forest owner fells the trees, cuts them to lengths and delivers the wood to the roadside, where Metsä Group's contractor picks it up with a timber truck.
The early delivery premium is paid to owner-members from whom Metsä Group receives logs and pulpwood as delivery sales between 15 September and 15 December 2022. The early delivery premium is paid for wood received during this period, regardless of the date of the actual delivery sale agreement. The decisive factor is when the wood is received.
"With this early delivery premium, we want to encourage our owner-members to carry out delivery sales during the autumn and to send a message about the excellent demand for delivery sales and the strengthened price level," says Riissanen.
The delivery sale agreement is conducted with Metsä Group's local forest expert and involves agreeing on the amount of wood to be delivered by the forest owner, the prices, dimensions and the storage location at the roadside.
"The more timber trade an owner-member does with Metsä Group, the more they benefit from their membership. The logs and pulpwood we receive from owner- members this year - including delivery sales - will be included in the future profit sharing based on timber trade," Riissanen points out.
