To find ideas for further developing operations in commercial forests, Metsä Group will organise a competition called Renew Metsä for the owner-members of its parent company Metsäliitto Cooperative. The competition seeks new concrete ideas for boosting the varied use, biodiversity, climate resilience, vitality and water protection of commercial forests while also paying attention to economic considerations.
“We at Metsä Group and our owner-members play an important role in the wellbeing of forests across Finland. As a result of our investments, our role will continue to increase. The Renew Metsä competition is a continuation of the forest and nature events we organised last spring for our owner-members around Finland. We want to continue our discussions about the practical meaning of sustainability. I believe our owner-members will come up with many interesting and concrete measures for securing a good future for our commercial forests,” says Silja Pitkänen-Arte, Metsä Group’s Sustainability Manager.
The competition is open to all members of Metsäliitto Cooperative and will run from 1 October to 30 November. Use the form available on Metsä Group’s website to submit your entry. We will use five main criteria – innovation, viability, effectiveness, measurability and economic efficiency – to assess the proposed ideas. The first prize is EUR 5,000, the second prize EUR 3,000 and the third prize EUR 1,000 (tax-free). A jury comprising Metsä Group’s employees will select the winners, whose names will be announced in January 2024.
Last winter, Metsä Group published its updated 2030 sustainability targets. In the spring, Metsä Group released its regenerative forestry strategy aimed at improving the state of forest nature from that of today. The Renew Metsä competition has strong links to Metsä Group’s sustainability targets and its regenerative forestry strategy. The competition contributes to the development of Metsä Group’s wood supply and forest services while seeking ideas for new forest services to be offered to owner-members.
