Metsä Group aims to reduce fossil carbon dioxide emissions from wood supply by 30 per cent from the 2022 level by 2030. In the first phase the focus is on reducing emissions from wood transport operated by lorries, trains and vessels.

Metsä Group and Navalis Shipping have a long-standing partnership in wood transport in the Baltic Sea region. Metsä Group and Navalis Shipping now declare a common roadmap on decreasing the environmental impact of maritime shipping by reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Together Metsä Group and Navalis Shipping plan to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30 percent per ton/mile by 2030 when compared to 2022.

“As part of our emission reduction strategy, we are investing in our fleet renewal as well as in energy saving technologies and technical upgrades for our existing fleet. Continuous improvement of our day-to-day operations as well as our sustainable new building program will enable us to reduce the emissions further,” says Simon tom Wörden, Managing Director of Navalis Shipping GmbH & Co. KG, and continues:

“Climate protection is a global task that can only be accomplished through collaboration. Therefore, we appreciate the close cooperation with our longstanding partners from Metsä Group.”

“We are constantly looking for new opportunities on our ambitious path in reducing fossil carbon dioxide emissions from wood supply. Our close collaboration with Navalis Shipping is a significant partnership for us in reducing emissions within maritime transportation by 2030,” says Hannu Alarautalahti, SVP, Production, Metsä Group Wood Supply and Forest Services.
