Metsä Group is boosting the growth of its owner-members’ forests with a fertilisation campaign this spring. During the campaign, which runs from 1 February to 31 May 2025, Metsä Group’s owner-members receive a 10% discount on any growth-enhancing fertilisation they order. The discount applies to all growth-enhancing fertilisation for sale, whether carried out by surface application or aerial spreading, in the fertilisation season 2025.
Growth-enhancing fertilisation improves forest growth and enhances carbon storage, which helps mitigate climate change. Forest fertilisation is one of the most economically advantageous investments in wood production: in heath forests, the annual return on a fertilisation investment is 10–15%, depending on the area.
“Good forest management consists of many important stages, but forest fertilisation is the most efficient way to speed up forest growth and increase carbon sequestration. Properly applied forest fertilisation has a positive effect on both the climate and the forest owner’s income,” says Juho Rantala, Metsä Group's SVP for Wood Trade and Forest Services.
“With this campaign, we want to support our owner-members in active forest management and raise awareness of our fertilisation services. Metsä Group’s owner-members own about half of Finland’s privately owned forests, so the measures taken in their forests have a significant impact on the growth and carbon sequestration of Finnish forests as a whole.”
