We have now worked with groundworks around 240 days. The landscape on the site has changed a lot – and will continue to change. Over the remainder of the year, we will commence the construction of foundations, and then the first buildings will begin to take shape in early 2024.
For the heavy traffic arrangements, we have returned back to the original Bruksvägen entrance for the majority of the traffic. This arrangement will remain in place until the completion of our new factory gate and entrance on Marieforsleden, scheduled for 2025. Our common goal with the residents of Mariestad is safety and security along Marieforsleden. We are committed to continually raise our interest towards a safe and smooth solution there. We have made a strategic shift that will divert traffic away from Sandbäcksvägen and the surrounding residential area.
When working with a project as extensive as the Future Mill in Mariestad, it is inevitable that challenges will arise. While doing the ground works – we have naturally caused some issues around the site. Dust and noise are difficult to completely mitigate. Especially dry season with wind from the west has been a headache. Salting and watering the site has not totally solved issues for our neighborhood. We sincerely appreciate their patience and we can ensure an improved situation next summer.
Our team has established good co-operation and effective working practices. Moving forward the topics at hand will become more intricate and multifaceted. Communication is a key success factor in a project of this magnitude. And that involves everyone, our co-operation parties, all stakeholders around us and of course our own dedicated employees. We believe in constructive dialogue and want to continue that throughout the entirety of the project. Whether you are part of Metsä or not, we encourage everyone to reach out and share their thoughts or questions.
Eagerly looking forward to 2024 – our Future Mill silhouette will start raising upwards, and in roughly a year, the majority of the new buildings have reached the outlooks they largely will have upon completion. This milestone will give all of us the exciting opportunity to witness the projects progress firsthand. There is still a considerable amount of work to be done, and in the phases that follow. We are grateful for the continued support and dedication of everyone involved. Together, we will bring the plans to life, which targets world leading environmental and operational performance in tissue production.
