The event, held on a beautiful June day, was a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved in this ambitious venture.

With an investment of 370 million euros, the Future mill project is not only reshaping the industrial landscape of Mariestad but also creating significant economic opportunities for the region. The expansion generates approximately 100 new permanent jobs, with an additional 2,000 full-time equivalent person-years during the construction phase. The construction started during spring 2023 and the renewed mill is planned to be operational in the second half of 2025.

I want to emphasize the collaborative efforts that have brought the project to this point. Despite facing challenges along the way, including harsh conditions during the past winter, the team has remained steadfast in their commitment to safety and excellence”, says Esa Paavolainen, Vice President Projects, underlining the importance of local partnerships, and also highlighting the involvement of both local and international companies in the project.

The tradition of the Roof Topping ceremony originates from a time when communities came together to build homes, the ceremony symbolizes unity and collaboration. The impact of the Future mill in Mariestad extends far beyond the physical footprint, leaving a lasting legacy that will be remembered for years to come. The initial fully covered roof in the area is the dispatch section, standing at around 12 meters high. The mill's tallest structure is the new fully automated high-bay warehouse, slated to reach over 30 meters in height.

As the project moves ahead, the attention will soon turn towards the next phases, including machinery installation and testing. The expansion of the Mariestad mill will bring considerable improvements after the expansion is ready, for example the fossil CO2 emissions will drop to zero latest by 2030 due to new technology in use.
