Floor panel

Kerto® LVL offers exceptional stability, making it an ideal choice for floor structures. Kerto LVL Q, L, and D panels can be used as part of prefabricated elements or installed individually on-site, often with the surface left exposed. Woodworking companies benefit from customised panel sizes which can be as large as 2.5 m x 20 m or 1.8 m x 25 m, with thicknesses ranging from 21 to 75 millimeters. The Kerto LVL D-panel is also available in 15- and 18-millimeter options.

The panels can be installed either parallel or perpendicular to the joists. With a half-lap joint, they simplify the construction of rigid, load-bearing floor structures. They can be fastened using staples, nails, or screws. Additionally, Kerto panels act as a vapor barrier and can achieve fire resistance class F30 without the need for protective treatments.

For structural calculations, the Finnwood software is an excellent choice, enabling users to account for spans, support widths, inclinations, and loads. Kerto LVL Q-panel is also compatible with most design programs. Metsä Wood’s technical customer service provides expert guidance on reliable design practices and can supply detailed technical specifications.

Key Benefits

  • Large Custom Formats: Panels as large as 2.5 m x 20 m or 1.8 m x 25 m, and thicknesses ranging from 15–75 mm.
  • High Strength: Ideal for slim, low-profile floor solutions with superior load-bearing capabilities.
  • Quick installation, as one Kerto LVL panel can replace approximately 15 to 20 tongue-and-groove boards.
  • Extended Joist Spans: Allows up to 25% wider beam spacing than OSB3 at the same panel thickness.
  • Improved Fire Performance: Approximately 25% better charring rate compared to OSB3.
  • Exceptional Performance: Kerto LVL performs 12–50% better as a floor panel compared to a three-layer panel.
  • Enhanced Rigidity and Strength: Kerto LVL Q-panel is 25% stiffer and 20% stronger in bending compared to 27 mm 3-layer panel.

Ease of Use and Integration

  • Flexible Installation: Panels can be laid parallel or perpendicular to joists, featuring a half-lap joint for stiffening floor structures.
  • Simple Fastening: Attach with staples, nails, or screws.
  • Fire and Moisture Protection: Works as a vapor barrier and achieves fire resistance class F30 without additional treatments.
  • Optimized Wall Connections: The Top Slab connection ensures easy wall or beam integration through the overlap of the upper panel layer.

Software and Support

  • Precise Calculations: Use Finnwood software to plan spans, support widths, inclinations, and loads. Kerto LVL Q-panel is compatible with most design programs.
  • Expert Guidance: Metsä Wood’s technical customer service provides reliable advice on construction principles and project specifications.

The easy-to-install Top Slab connection is recommended for attaching floor panels to walls or beams. This is done by extending the top panel of the floor structure beyond the edge of the lower structure.

Kerto LVL shows its efficiency not only as a panel material for floor but also when used in beam layers made from Kerto LVL S-beam or T-stud. Additionally, Kerto LVL is an ideal choice for constructing lintels and edge beams, offering a highly efficient solution in these areas as well.
