Sole and head plate in lightweight timber frame construction

Using Kerto LVL L or Kerto LVL T in the sole and head plate can save approximately 50% of the material compared to traditional timber frame construction. This reduction is achieved by utilizing significantly slimmer cross-sections, which also minimizes thermal bridging. Kerto LVL can be effectively used in various wall applications, such as in the frames of 60-millimeter non-load-bearing interior walls or highly insulated 360-millimeter-thick exterior walls.

Kerto LVL is dimensionally stable, making it a sustainable, CO2-saving alternative to conventional CW profiles, while maintaining straightness. The material's thickness tolerance, refined through calibration to within +/- 0.5 millimeters, enhances reliability in automated processes. The transverse layers of Kerto L prevent shrinkage and swelling in width, allowing for laterally cantilevering sole plate details.

With very low wood moisture content, Kerto LVL also prevents subsidence. Additionally, Kerto LVL production uses water-resistant glue, and the products can easily be handled with standard woodworking machines. Kerto LVL is available in standard dimensions as well as customized cross-sections and lengths.

Benefits of using Kerto LVL in sole and head plates

  • Material usage in thinner cross sections can be reduced by around 50% compared to standard cross-sections. This will reduce costs as well.
  • Lighter weight simplifies handling on the element table.
  • Allows for the realization of complex sole plate details, even with lateral projections.
  • Offers versatile applications, from slim, non-load-bearing interior walls to highly insulated exterior walls.

Benefits gained through automated serial element production

  • Excellent dimensional stability supports meeting high-quality standards.
  • Components remain straight, making them easier to handle in automatic production.
  • Calibration reduces component thickness tolerance to +/- 0.5 millimeters, enhancing reliability in automated processes.

Sole and head plate combined with other applications

Kerto LVL can be used efficiently and with material savings in wall stud frames. Sole- and head plates, as well as studs work together to form a highly efficient and dimensionally stable construction.
