Metsä Wood were pleased to sponsor the Best Low Energy Project for the second year of the Structural Timber Awards. More than 500 leaders and innovators from across the construction sector gathered at the International Conference Centre, Birmingham, on October 19 for the awards.

The awards were hosted by television personality and all round funny man Mark Durden-Smith who presented sixteen companies with a prestigious Structural Timber Award. All of the winning projects demonstrated innovation and all round excellence through the use of timber.

Metsä Wood sponsored The Best Low Energy Project which was won by Cygnum Timber Frame for the Enterprise Centre at The University of East Anglia. The award was presented by Mike Ward, Managing Director of Metsä Wood UK.

As well as sponsoring the Best Low Energy Project, Metsä Wood entered its Plan B marketing campaign into the Product Marketing Award category and although it didn’t win, it was ‘highly commended’. The Plan B campaign was created to challenge preconceptions and explore the possibilities of wood construction using iconic architectural designs.

As a marketing campaign, Plan B has continued to develop, still focussing on the possibilities of wood construction. It recently launched a competition called ‘The City Above The City’ for architects and engineers to design a wooden extension to an existing urban building using wood (Kerto® LVL – laminated veneer lumber). The competition winners have just been announced with some really great winners. Find out more about Plan B -> planb.metsawood.com.
