Reshaping the future of construction with hybrid solutions
Sirius building in Sydney, Australia is a prominent example of brutalism. It was built with the cheapest material available at the time – concrete. Architect Tao Gofers originally designed the Sirius building, and now on our Talking Wood video he reflects on the decision made back in the 70s. He states that today we would pay more attention to the sustainability and the carbon footprint of the building.
“In many cases, as much as 25% of these materials could easily be replaced with Kerto® LVL. The end result would be beautiful as well as more sustainable, because wood is an effective and aesthetic material. I believe wood elements will be an essential part of tomorrow's better cities – hybrid cities,” says Gofers.
Replacing 25% of the concrete structures of Sirius with Kerto LVL would reduce the carbon footprint of the Sirius building with ca. 76 000 tonnes, roughly equivalent to 16 000 years of driving with an average family car*.
