Metsä Group is building a visitor centre in its Äänekoski mill area. The centre reached its full height this winter. The visitor centre will open in summer 2018, and will provide a cross-sectional view of the Group in an experiential, memorable way.

Construction work related to the interior of the visitor centre is being carried out on the site, including levelling off and painting, as well as finishing the floors. Around 60 people are working on the site. The construction project started at the turn of September and October 2017, and has progressed according to plan.

The building is currently more than 75 per cent complete. The exhibition will be built after the visitor centre has been completed, and the centre will open in summer 2018.

A centre full of knowledge and experiences

The visitor centre has been named Pro Nemus, which is Latin and means “for forests”.  The purpose of the centre is to tell Metsä Group’s story through entertaining and informative experiences, exhibitions and installations.

“Pro Nemus will offer multifaceted, interactive experiences, providing a new way to showcase our products and innovations, as well as the opportunities offered by the bioeconomy,” says Marketing Communications Manager Katariina Saelan.

The exhibition will offer virtual mill tours, a harvester simulator, information about the ecosystem of the bioproduct mill and tools for creating ideas, as well as actual end products, among many other features. One of its most impressive installations is the Sustainable Forestry exhibition, where information about Finnish forests and their sustainable use is projected onto actual tree trunks.

The building in itself will be an impressive architectural reference to Metsä Group’s wood products. The Kerto LVL elements and plywood will be left visible and will constitute part of the exhibition.

The centre is intended for Metsä Group’s stakeholders. More information about reservation practices will be provided on Metsä Group’s website during the spring.
