Metsä Group and the Finnish Athletics Federation (SUL) have agreed on a main partnership for children’s and youth athletics in 2022-2024. At the heart of the co-operation are the Seurakisat for children and youth.
Seurakisat are held annually in about 500 different locations in Finland. Approximately 30,000 young people are targeted to take part in the competition during the summertime. Participants are under the age of five to about fifteen.
“The experiences and lessons learned in the field of sport carry you throughout your life. We want to play our part in supporting young people's low-threshold sports activities and thus their everyday well-being,” says Juha Laine, Metsä Group's Senior Vice President, Communications.
Seurakisat are a form of competition at the local level, where children and youth are encouraged to engage in a variety of activities in a safe and joyful manner throughout Finland. The role of the families is emphasized by involving parents as active actors.
“It is great that Metsä Group wants to encourage the sport activities of children and young people. In Seurakisat, the future top athletes will have the sports spark. For this reason, it is important that the Seurakisat are held all over Finland. The number of organizing clubs and competitions is planned to be increased significantly in the coming years,” says Harri Aalto, CEO of SUL.
