The tree planting period will be four weeks in June 2025 and the two-week Tutustu työelämään ja tienaa (“Learn and Earn”) periods at production units will take place between 2 June and 8 August 2025.
Young people were hired for planting work for the first time last summer.

“Last year’s experiment was so successful that we want to provide young people with the opportunity to acquire work experience from the forest sector this year as well,” says Jaakko Pitkänen, operations manager for the Kemi procurement district at Metsä Group’s Wood Supply and Forest Services.

Next summer, 14 Metsä Group procurement districts will hire a group of three young people each. Every group will have its own instructor who will transport the group to the sites, supervise the young people’s work and safety, and participate in the planting work.

Planting seedlings does not require any previous work experience.

“People under 18 can do planting work successfully. It needs to be taken into account that planting work involves moving around challenging terrain at times.  We are looking for young people who are motivated and ready to work. The pay is dependent on the number of planted seedlings,” Pitkänen says.

Learn and Earn (Tutustu työelämään ja tienaa)
Our production units offer young people summer employment in the form of two-week “Learn and Earn” summer jobs. These summer jobs can be applied for by students in comprehensive education, upper secondary schools and preparatory education.

Summer jobs are available in Joutseno, Kemi, Lappeenranta, Lohja, Mänttä, Punkaharju, Rauma, Renko, Simpele, Vilppula and Äänekoski.

The Learn and Earn jobs include cleaning and maintaining the outdoor areas and green areas at mills. The work is done on weekdays, and the working days are six hours long. The pay for a two-week summer job is 400 euros. The young people are given a thorough induction to their jobs.
